What To Expect

Pre-Operative

More than anyone, we understand that you want your preoperative process to be smooth. That’s exactly why we’ve provided you with a secure, easy-to-use online tool, that makes it possible for you to share your medical history, prescription medication list, anesthesia history and other pertinent information with your team here at CPM.

Here to help you every step of the way:

Understand

Before we can help you achieve your best possible surgical outcome, we need to understand you and your medical history. At your pre-surgical consult visit or in the week prior to your surgery, we’ll ask you to fill out a brief health history assessment.
By answering some simple questions, you’ll help us assess your physical and mental well-being.

Communicate

Once you’ve shared your health history and contact information with us, we’ll update you several times in the weeks leading up to your procedure. You’ll be given access to the tools you need to learn how to prepare yourself for your surgery. For some minor procedures, you may only hear from us once, but if you have any unanswered questions or concerns, we’re here for you.

Prepare

Preparing for surgery is a lot like preparing for a race. It takes time and diligence to put yourself in the best position. Lucky for you, you’ve got a team of solid coaches here at CPM. Our regular communications and the content in our patient portal will help you prepare for a strong post-surgical recovery.

Types of anesthesia

Many people are familiar with the idea of general anesthesia, but we’re happy to tell you that with advances in medicine and our expertise, there are better options.

Traditional, inhaled general anesthesia comes with an increased risk of side effects and complications, which is our team always likes to explore options for your care.

Nerve Block: With this technique, your anesthesiologist uses an ultrasound machine to safely and precisely anesthetize individual nerves and groups of nerves. As a result, you will not feel anything during surgery and will have excellent pain control afterwards. Every CPM team physician is an expert in performing an array of safe and effective nerve blocks.

Spinal Block: By placing a very small amount of local anesthetic near where the nerves leave the spinal canal, your anesthesiologist can ensure that you don’t feel any pain during your surgical procedure.

Intravenous Anesthesia: In addition to one of the techniques above, your anesthesiologist can use intravenous anesthetics so that you have a peaceful sleep during your surgical procedure.

Other Techniques: We take your recovery seriously, which is why all of our Board Certified physicians are well-prepared to offer you a number of anesthetic options when possible, with the goal of helping you avoid a lengthy recovery period.

Your anesthesiologist will discuss all of your options with you in detail on the day of your procedure. Please remember, not all surgical procedures or patients are the same, and some of the options listed above may not apply to your procedure.
